Senior Software Engineer (Contract)

Joined a small Bitcoin product team to add development capacity.

  • Improved existing purchase and withdrawal flows in React/TypeScript and Flutter, adding a passkey option for withdrawals. Built web and mobile interfaces for a new vault feature, letting customers set daily withdrawal limits and automatically spread larger withdrawals over several days. Integrated these features with a Go backend using gRPC and Protobuf, tracing backend behavior to align the web and mobile flows.
  • Worked through a backlog of bugs and product improvements in rapid iterations. Prioritized non-urgent work independently; the founders directed urgent work.
  • Handled UX design alongside frontend implementation while the designer was on parental leave. Moved the design setup from Adobe XD to Figma and created reusable Figma components based on the existing design conventions.

Gjensidige Pensjonsforsikring

Norwegian pension provider serving over 300,000 customers.

  • Built and maintained Java/Kotlin Spring services, APIs and integrations, alongside React/TypeScript applications for purchases, customer self-service, advice and fund selection.
  • Worked directly with business stakeholders, external industry bodies, and partners on requirements, technical design, testing, rollout, and production follow-up.

  • Spent approximately 60% of the role writing production code across customer and caseworker applications, APIs and integrations.
  • Held technical responsibility for the team’s applications and integrations, including architecture decisions, code reviews and production support.

Core Pension-System Migration

Gjensidige Pensjonsforsikring

Took over technical responsibility for the first phase of a pension core-system migration and carried it through to production. A customer could hold policies in both core systems. Designed and implemented a shared policy model, APIs that routed each policy to the correct core system, and core-system adapters. These shielded more than ten frontend applications from most core-system differences while both systems ran in parallel. Updated React/TypeScript interfaces for cost breakdowns, projections and fund selection, including portfolio allocations newly supported by the core system. Migrated older endpoints to the new APIs and handled debugging, rollbacks and fixes during rollout.

Digital Savings and Advice Flow — Authorization

Gjensidige Pensjonsforsikring

Held technical responsibility for updating a digital savings and advice flow to meet requirements from FinAut, the Norwegian finance industry’s authorization body. Implemented a substantial share of the changes. Evaluated business requirements, translated them into technical requirements and GitHub issues, and guided two other developers. Implemented conditional React/TypeScript forms, fund selection and interactive savings projections, together with the supporting Kotlin/Spring Boot APIs, forecast calculations and database changes. The team met the authorization deadline and released the updated flow; missing the deadline would have required taking the existing flow offline.

Pension Account Integration — PKR

Gjensidige Pensjonsforsikring

Implemented Gjensidige’s integration with Norway’s shared pension-account registry as part of a national pension reform. Built multi-step account-transfer workflows, contribution and payment processing, and REST-based caseworker tools. Transfer progress depended on asynchronous notifications from other pension providers. Built validation, retries and idempotency into the workflows, along with a controlled batch upload for the initial policy data. Continued maintaining and supporting the integration through October 2025.

Pension Information Integration — V2 to V3

Gjensidige Pensjonsforsikring

Independently migrated Gjensidige’s Java integration with the Norsk Pensjon pension-information service from V2 to V3. Retrieved newly required pension data from a complex legacy schema using SQL, clarified its meaning with business specialists, and mapped it to the new service contracts. Implemented SOAP message security. Ran both versions in parallel during the transition. Started the production rollout with internal employees’ policies and gradually expanded it until the transition was complete.
